What a medical chronology costs
Three ways to pay: a human service, a software platform, or your own staff’s time. The ranges below are drawn from vendors’ published materials and industry reporting. Any one vendor’s quote will vary with the file.
US nurse-reviewed services
Independent legal nurse consultants and US-based physician-review firms bill $100–275 per hour. A substantial personal-injury file typically runs $1,500–$6,000. This is the tier with clinical judgment on staff.
Offshore and hybrid services
A large tier of overseas vendors publish rates of $0.15–$0.75 per page or $25–35 per hour. Most now market AI workflows with clinician review. That puts a typical file at $100–$400.
Quotes usually require a round-trip, and the records are processed offshore.
Self-serve AI software
Pay-as-you-go tools run $0.05–$0.10 per page or $28–150 per chronology. No human review: the verification work is yours.
AI-native platforms
Litigation platforms with AI drafting are sold as subscriptions with sales-quoted, case-based pricing. No rate is posted.
Industry reporting puts typical small-firm spend in the hundreds to low thousands of dollars per month. Per-artifact economics are comparable to a few hundred dollars per demand package.
Figures reflect published vendor pricing as of August 2026. Where a vendor publishes no price, none is quoted here.
Doing it in-house
A paralegal building a chronology from a 1,000-page file typically needs 20–40 hours of focused work. At a loaded cost of $50–$75 per hour, that is $1,000–$3,000 of staff time per case. Redo the arithmetic with your own numbers.
The work recurs on every supplemental production.
What actually drives the price
Four things: page volume, source quality, whether facts are cited to their pages, and review. Review means whether a person checked the output, and whether you can see that they did.
Questions to ask any vendor
- Is every extracted fact linked to the exact source page, and can we click it?
- Is the price quoted before the work runs, from the page count?
- What happens with pages you cannot read?
- Do you report what is MISSING from the production, not just what is in it?
Claracord prices per file, quoted from the page count before anything runs (see pricing). Every fact is linked to its source page, and missing pages are reported as a verifiable lower bound. Human-verified, every fact cited to source.
